Operational plans
Although the site has planning permission to operate until 2033, if we tip at our maximum permitted levels it could be closed by 2028.
The next cell to be filled is the new Cell 6. This has been engineered to modern standards and is already equipped with gas collection infrastructure. As it is dealing with fresh waste and will not be filled above existing contour heights, we do not anticipate any odour problems with this cell.
Ongoing work
The diagram opposite shows proposed finished contour levels.
Cell 5 marked the peak of the site and any further work will be at a lower level and on the far side of the site, which will given additional protection against any potential odour drifting towards town on the prevailing wind.
Once cell 6 is completed, we will then engineer cells 7, 8 and 9 so that they are ready to accept waste as we work towards completion of the site.
Restoration plans
Once the remaining cells are full, the site will then be fully restored and landscaped. This will involve capping with liner, clay and soils and then implementing a planting regime.
Our aim is to work with the local community to agree a planting and restoration scheme that will deliver bio diversity net gain.
