Engineering work has been taking place this week to permanently cap the leachate chamber that was previously causing an issue. This work involved removing the temporary cap and replacing it with a “biscuit lid” to improve the seal. Unfortunately, this did create a slight temporary odour issue whilst the works were undertaken, but as with all of the engineering work undertaken on site, it will help prevent odour in the future.
On Tuesday, we put cameras down the wells to inspect their condition. Wells can become deformed as new waste is tipped against them, and when they are extended, they are extended with plain pipe rather than perforated pipe, which limits gas extraction from that zone. By re-drilling them, we can remediate any deformation and replace the pipe with perforated sections to improve gas extraction. We will have a drilling rig onsite from Tuesday to redrill any wells as required, as well as install 10-15 new wells to further improve gas capture.
