Independent monitoring at Jameson Road Landfill has recorded zero landfill-related odour observations for the week commencing 31 August 2026, in the latest evidence of the effectiveness of the site’s capping and odour control measures.
The weekly report, prepared by an independent consultancy, verified 131 monitoring observations taken over five monitoring rounds between 1 and 5 September 2026. Every single observation recorded no odour and no evident source, a 100% clean result across the entire reporting period.
This is an improvement on the preceding week, which recorded 18 landfill-related odour observations out of 135 verified readings, all at low intensity. The move from 13.3% of observations to zero is a clear, measurable improvement between two consecutive weeks, and a strong indicator that recent odour control work at the site is having the intended effect.
The results are particularly notable given prevailing weather conditions. Winds during the monitoring period were moderate to strong and predominantly from the west and south-west, conditions that would be expected to carry any odour plume towards the Wyre estuary and nearby receptors. Despite this, no odour was detected at the site boundary or at any monitored location, indicating no evidence of off-site odour impact during the period.
A site spokesperson said: “This is a strong result and reflects the investment we have made in capping and odour control at Jameson Road. We know odour matters to our neighbours, and we will keep monitoring independently, week on week, to make sure these improvements are maintained.”
Independent odour monitoring continues at the site on a weekly basis.
