Monitoring results for the week commencing 18 August 2025 show that odour levels around the Jameson Road Landfill Site remain very low.

Odour monitoring was undertaken across a range of locations to assess potential nuisance and identify any links to landfill gas or odours originating from the landfill site.
Overall, the findings confirm that landfill operations did not contribute to odour impacts at any of the monitored locations over the period.

Routine odour monitoring conducted in Fleetwood between 31 July and 5 August confirms that odour levels remain extremely low, with the vast majority of observations recording no detectable odour.

Odour levels have been very low this week and mainly confined to the site itself. Three new wells were drilled on Tuesday and these were immediately connected to the gas extraction system. These are working well and we are now approaching maximum electricity production.

Our engineers have worked through the evening to repair the damage to the gas extraction equipment. The repair is now complete and the gas extraction infrastructure is now fully working across all areas of the site.

Damage to a landfill gas condensate knock-out pot was identified yesterday evening and may have increased odour from the affected area.

We are aware of higher than normal odour levels throughout the back end of last week and into the weekend. The increase was noted across a variety of odour types, particularly rotten eggs, sewage, fish, fresh waste and perfume-like odours.

The latest odour monitoring report for the Jameson Road site, covering the week commencing 17 June 2025, confirms that odour levels at high sensitivity locations remain exceptionally low, with “no odour” being the overwhelming majority classification.

The first set of results an the independent odour monitoring company have been published and show that odour levels are currently low, and appear to originate from a number of sources.

EA Releases Air Quality Monitoring Report
The biggest and longest study into air quality surrounding the Jameson Road land fill site has concluded that air quality is well within WHO safety standards - directly contradicting claims made by objectors that they are being poisoned.

The new deep wells continue to work well and our gas contractors are fine tuning them on an ongoing basis to maximise performance. The independent odour monitoring is showing very little odour from our site over the last 10 days.

Progressive restoration will start this spring/summer, with tree planting taking place in autumn/winter. The tree planting is a £411,000 programme which will involve the planting of 32,000 trees on the site.
