The site closed on Christmas Eve and barring a small amount of work on 29 and 30 December, it remained closed for the Christmas and New Year period, reopening again on Monday 5 January.
We are aware of some odour issues over the period, but this was not caused by work on site and Melton CLP, the gas operator, had staff on site over the period to manage gas extraction.
Update – 16 December 2025
Works have been taking place on site to drill 16 new wells to improve gas extraction. Unfortunately this has created some temporary odour which has been exacerbated by the still weather conditions slowing its dispersal.

Update – 7 November 2025
Unfortunately there has been an increased level of odour over the last couple of days. This is as a result of work to seal a gas extraction connection to a leachate chamber which has taken longer than expected.

We are meeting with the Community Benefit Fund company next week to finalise details of this in readiness for the launch at the next CLG. We are aware of a number of local organisations who have already enquired about possible funding, so we are keen to get this started ASAP.

Routine odour monitoring conducted in Fleetwood between 31 July and 5 August confirms that odour levels remain extremely low, with the vast majority of observations recording no detectable odour.

Odour levels have been very low this week and mainly confined to the site itself. Three new wells were drilled on Tuesday and these were immediately connected to the gas extraction system. These are working well and we are now approaching maximum electricity production.

We are aware of higher than normal odour levels throughout the back end of last week and into the weekend. The increase was noted across a variety of odour types, particularly rotten eggs, sewage, fish, fresh waste and perfume-like odours.
