Waste Figures

The Waste Framework Directive (WFD) sets out what waste is and how it should be managed. The WFD considers some wastes to be hazardous waste.

The List of Wastes Decision (LoWD) provides:

  • A list of wastes (LoW), often called the European Waste Catalogue;
  • The rules for using the list;
  • The criteria used to assess if a waste on the list is hazardous.

The List of Wastes contains over 800 different waste entries, arranged into chapters and sub-chapters. However this is not a list that you can simply open up and pick a code – companies must instead follow a strict procedure in order to obtain the correct six digit List of Wastes code. In addition, the different types of wastes that can be accepted at the site are listed within, and limited by, the site’s environmental permit.

The waste received at Jameson Road this year is classified as:

  • 191212 – other wastes (including mixtures of materials) from mechanical treatment of wastes other than those mentioned in 191211 (191211 includes waste derived from hazardous materials)
  • 170107 – mixtures of concrete, bricks, tiles and ceramics other than those mentioned in 170106 (170106 includes waste derived from hazardous materials)
  • 170102 – bricks
  • 010409 – waste sand and clays

The figures below show waste received at Jameson Road broken down by List of Wastes category and by quarter:
